The Essence

Why This Route

Thirteen days is enough time for the quiet to actually register, Okonjima especially, a private reserve built around conservation rather than crowds, where the loudest thing you'll hear is the reserve itself. This route is the fullest expression of what makes Namibia different: space, and the patience to let a place reveal itself slowly.

A lone dead camelthorn tree standing against red Sossusvlei dunes at first light
A single walker following the crest of a tall red dune above a white pan
A 4x4 pausing on soft coastal dunes with the Atlantic just visible beyond
A pod of dolphins gliding through clear turquoise water off Walvis Bay
A stone cairn on a rocky ridge above a hazy layered canyon landscape
Three gemsbok crossing a golden plain beneath towering red mountains
A black rhino standing in the shallows of an Etosha waterhole with its reflection
Palm trees silhouetted beside a still waterhole as the sky turns gold at sunset
Shaded lodge deck chairs under umbrellas looking out over Damaraland's granite boulders
A candlelit table set for dinner on a lodge deck as the sun sets behind the rocks

Our 15-day journey through Namibia was magical, and a significant part of that was thanks to our guide, Jurgens. His enthusiasm for the country was infectious, and he shared not only its stunning landscapes but also its rich culture and history. He genuinely cared about our preferences and adapted our itinerary so we got the most out of every location. Even after 15 days together, we never grew tired of his company.

As a solo female traveller very far from home, it was wonderful to be with a knowledgeable guide that I trusted. He knows so much about his country and about being in the various landscapes — I always felt safe travelling with him. Being with Jurgens allowed me to see so much more of the country than I ever could have on my own. I couldn't have asked for a better guide!

We did a 10-day trip across Namibia with Jurgens and it was one of the most memorable experiences of our lives. I captured some dream photographs, all thanks to his expertise and immense knowledge of Namibia. He made sure we were always in the right place at the right time and showed us magical places we would never have come across self-driving.
