The Essence

Why This Route

Sossusvlei is what "desert" actually means here, not sand for its own sake, but dunes older than most civilisations, rising out of the oldest desert on the planet. Pair that with Twyfelfontein's ancient rock art a few days later, and this route covers both the desert and the deep time that define Namibia, in nine days, not nine hundred.

Curving crest of a vast red dune catching first light in the Namib
A walker climbing the ridge of a towering dune, footprints trailing behind
Storm clouds over Sossusvlei with rain water pooled on the pan below the dunes
A rusting shipwreck in the surf off the Skeleton Coast under a clear blue sky
A 4x4 pausing on soft coastal dunes with the Atlantic just visible beyond
A pod of dolphins gliding through clear turquoise water off Walvis Bay
Sun setting over granite koppies and open plains in Damaraland
Shaded lodge deck chairs under umbrellas looking out over Damaraland's granite boulders
Desert-adapted elephants walking a dry riverbed below rocky mountains
Three gemsbok crossing a golden plain beneath towering red mountains

"There is so much to see in Namibia, and vast distances to travel, being with Jurgens allowed me to see so much more of the country than I ever could have seen on my own."

Our 15-day journey through Namibia was magical, and a significant part of that was thanks to our guide, Jurgens. His enthusiasm for the country was infectious, and he shared not only its stunning landscapes but also its rich culture and history. He genuinely cared about our preferences and adapted our itinerary so we got the most out of every location. Even after 15 days together, we never grew tired of his company.

As a solo female traveller very far from home, it was wonderful to be with a knowledgeable guide that I trusted. He knows so much about his country and about being in the various landscapes — I always felt safe travelling with him. Being with Jurgens allowed me to see so much more of the country than I ever could have on my own. I couldn't have asked for a better guide!

We did a 10-day trip across Namibia with Jurgens and it was one of the most memorable experiences of our lives. I captured some dream photographs, all thanks to his expertise and immense knowledge of Namibia. He made sure we were always in the right place at the right time and showed us magical places we would never have come across self-driving.
